Divinity System, even closer!

YO. Whatup. Check dis out:

http://www.moddb.com/games/ook-once-i-owned-a-kestrel/images/divinity-90-complete

Above is the divinity system almost completed. As you can see, I created and placed the other station in the system. All that i have to do is add more roids and finish texturing the SAR that I already modeled and UV Mapped. Soon! Milestone 1 almost complete. Yee.

In other news, I have just discovered that Wings3d now supports items being baked. Below is a link to a screenshot. If you want to know how and can't figure it out yourself I'll create a video and show you. Just let me know on the Forum

More Interface Design!

Hey guys. I have been working really hard at a beautiful and functional interface for OOK. So far I have completed the In-flight screen, the INFO menu, the Radar, and the Map. I still have a lot to do including the planetary interface, the comm interface, outfitter, shipyard, mission computer, trading post, etc. Stick around, I'll be working hard at them for the next week or so!

Added a video page

As well as adding the forum today, I've also added a video page with an embedded youtube player. It filters my youtube videos and only plays project-specific videos. Check it out on the projects page. Click the video link under the appropriate project. Right now this means the only project, which is OOK. Or click below.

And here it is. An introduction to OOK

Check it out here, on the projects page of the SND website.

ALAS! Yes, that's right! The back story, TYPED!

Almost. I'm about 2/3 of the way through typing up my back story which I have on paper. I'll finish tomorrow and put it up on the site! Soon you guys! Hang in there.

Definitely some progress

What I've been doing recently is mapping out the systems on paper. Previously I had a list of each system and all the entities that will be in it. Now I am mapping the systems on paper in order to more efficiently map them in the 3d environment. I also have someone working on modeling low-poly asteroids for the systems. Progress is being made!

PS: Here's a link to the OOK Galaxy with a few system labels on it.

Working on OOK's Website

And actually it's a bit more broad than just OOK. Spiral Nebula Development is what I'll be calling myself. You can check out what I have of the homepage below. You'll see a gallery with placeholder images which are just the background image of the title bar. That will soon automatically pull from many of the screenshots I have taken of project-related works. Below the gallery will be posts from this blog. By using this blog on my home page I can continue to post in one place only and it will be automatically referenced by the SND site.

Also there will be a forum once I finish the rest of the site, and probably I will wait until I have made more progress on the game to put it up. I will be filling out the info and projects section ASAP.

Enjoy.

I have not been lazy! I promise.

Despite it being halloween weekend, I have not been too lazy. I have been trouble shooting my code for the iphone engine I am working with. I am still fairly new with C++. This weekend I also learned OOP (Object Oriented Programming) in C++, which is nice. It has helped me already to organize and write the code necessary to continue with my project. You'll see some results soon on my youtube channel.

Gratsi, bitches.

The First Galaxy of OOK

I don't believe I ever specified the name of the game I have been working on. This is because I don't plan on giving it a name until it nears completion. I do, however, have a working title. It is Once I Owned a Kestrel, or in short, OOK.

I wanted to draw the galaxy map that I had drawn on paper a while back, so I spent yesterday doing so. While the systems are still unnamed in this picture, I do have all the names on paper and will be inserting them soon.

I been biking a lot...

And I'm really tired. I've also been eating a lot of beans after I bike to help with soreness. They have much needed protein. Also hotdogs. Meat. Meat. I need protein. Plus I need to rebuild the muscles on my right leg. After all, it sure did get skinny after surgery.

Woooo school

So as mentioned, school starts TOMORROW! Im really excited. It's been pretty uneventful up here without school. Ya know? School is a place to meet people and I love learning about subjects that I am interested in. This first quarter will probably be not as fun, as I'm getting situated and registered a little too late for all the classes that I want.

Speaking of registration! I am still wait-listed for my intro to computer hardware class, so I had to go into the school today and sign up for backup classes! I still have a good chance of getting into the class if I show up, but if I don't my classes will be less exciting. It's all good, though. I have plenty of time to take classes that I want. I hope to take electrical engineering classes, and web development classes at some point. Another class that interests me is a database development class. I feel like it's something I need to learn. Oh, and possibly certain web design classes, as hard as they are.

See ya on the flip side.

WHAT!? Microsoft mending their ways?

So I recently got my new MacBook Pro for school. I just installed VMWare Fusion and Windows XP Pro onto it, only to find out that Internet Explorer 8 now has a 'Compatibility mode'. Now, In case you don't know me enough, would like to state that I have a grudge against IE, as do most web developers. This is because its renderer breaks a lot of rules which the W3C has make a standard in all compliant browsers (Firefox, Safari, Chrome, Camino, etc). So, I was about to make my site compatible with IE when I discovered that by default this compatibility mode is turned off, and counterintuitively this makes my site work correctly! Would you believe that microsoft makes it so that when compatibility mode is off, its browser doesn't break the W3C standards? WELL... LOL to that! Ha! Anyways, this is good news. I simply had my site (http://wa.site40.net/rlayne/) let users know to upgrade to IE 8 if they are using an older version, or to switch to a nice browser, listed above.

Good job, Microshit!

:)

Back... again!

I just moved up to seattle for school. I'm pretty much settled in now, sorry for disappearing again! I'll be doing some more work on that airplane, as well as other things. For instance that computer game. I made another model for it. Check it out.

Little progress of yesterday

Yesterday I had other things to do, so I made little progress. I did make important progress, however.

http://img200.imageshack.us/img200/3429/picture130g.png

Changes:

1.) Moved EDF (Ducted Fan) forward
2.) Smoothed out rear body shape
3.) Changed v-stab shape
4.) Modified efflux (exhaust pipe) to create more thrust

Day 3, Canopy progressed

It's day 3 and the canopy is progressing smoothly. As you can see, I've begun to layout the struts for it and the undercarriage that allows streamlined flow from the canopy into the intake.

http://img219.imageshack.us/img219/7493/picture131n.png

Changes:

1.) Canopy shape changed slightly to give more of a 'fast' feel to the shape
2.) Canopy method of attachment perfected
3.) Canopy struts drawn

Day off

I spent the day away from my house yesterday to spend time with my girlfriend, whom has now left for 3 weeks on a trip. Today I will be continuing my R/C Plane, so keep checking up.

Monday, August 3, 2009

Day 2, design is looking great

I have been putting a lot of thought into the design of this airplane. Today I focused on the frontal area of the plane, including the canopy and the air intake. In order to maintain smooth aerodynamics as well as optimal air intake, I have been attempting to design a good way to bevel the body's thickness down to the intake. So far so good. The pic below should give you an idea about what I mean.

Changes:

1.) Canopy elongated
2.) Method of attachment from canopy to body beginning to take shape
3.) Intake design taking shape
4.) Exhaust duct narrowed to actual diameter of the engine tunnel
5.) Basic vert stabilizer shape drawn
6.) Side view of plane drawn.

After a good long day's work, check out the progress I've made. Not bad, eh?

Old projects to new

So I finally got my ACL surgery and I have been recorvering for the past 2 and a half weeks. I still have months to go, so I decided to start things to use up my time. Seeing as I am very immobile right now, I have finally finished my R/C Plane I had started a while back. My maiden voyage I crashed it into a wall. Oops! It's alright though, it was basically a test airplane to see how spot-on my ability to calculate lift, center of gravity, etc was, and my ability to assemble the plane. Not bad, I have to say. I could have been better, but not bad. My next project, which I immediately started on, was an R/C Ducted Fan Jet. So far, it's pretty sick. Here's what I have design-wise. I'll keep posting!

Hulu

For the few of you that might not know about Hulu.com, it's a GREAT website to watch shows. I love it. From 24 to Stargate, I watch it all the time. And what's even better is most school networks don't block it! Hah. Enjoy.

I wish I could bike

I am so pissed that I can't bike for so long. It makes me annoyed and irritated. Rant rant rant. I need a physical activity that I can do that's fun. End Rant.

Birthday

Oh yes -- And May 12 was my birthday, so I am legal now! Haha.

Torn ACL

I tore my ACL a while back. Actually, it was a few weeks after my last blog post. It really does suck. I am scheduled for surgery on June 29, followed by a 6-month recovery that forbids me from biking. Horrible. My only form of exercise is now gone, so I actually have to go to the gym. Shit happens.

Some progress

The past couple days I've been drawing concept art. While I've now got someone else doing the art for certain ships, I decided to do a bit of my own. Because of this art, I was able to model two ships already, and they are lookin' great!

The Effect of Friends

A good friend of my girlfriend's and a friend of mine happens to be an artist. As mentioned before, I'm making a game and need a lot of concept art and writing. While I am writing, my concept art abilities are minimal. I now have someone to assist me by doing concept art. This is great news for me and will accelerate the development of this game greatly. I look forward to the day when it is completed and I am working very hard at keeping a consistent pace. Volunteers welcome, though I have no money to spare until I sell the game.

Really? Yes.

I don't know I thought I should just post something because I haven't posted in a while. Umm... I wrote like 10 pages today for a certain thing I mentioned somewhere deep in the not-so-deep bowels of this blog. I have many more pages to do, but seriously I need some concept artists and writers. My plan is to make it into an iPhone game. Normally my approach is to come up with ideas as I go along but this time I feel like creating all the writing elements and concept art before moving on to the real deal. It's how it's done in the industry and it will keep me focused and on track.

Yep.

A new bike trick

I learned i new trick in the past couple days. It's called a bar spin, i'm sure it's self- explanatory. I need to practice more and learn to do it in the air.

Mail in da house

Now my card license has already come in the mail. It's pretty awesome. Anyways, what else is new... Nothing much! Oh well I do have some good news. School is becoming close to ending. My girlfriend and I have been going out for some time now -- 8 months, about. She is going up north to seattle and we both were watching silently as the time drew closer. Finally we talked about it. The place she is going (not the college) works for me. And I am going to community college first anyways, so we are in good shape and will be taking that road trip that we wanted after all. And if anything does happen, which is highly unlikely, there are plenty of room for options. :)

Epic win.

I passed my test. Milk run. :) Now I have my license and I only have to wait 2 months until my provisional is up because that's when I turn 18. Woot!

In three hours I'm taking my driving test! :D I am sure I will pass. I'll post how it goes lata! Peace out.

Halo 3 on Guitar

I am learning Halo 3 on mah sis's electric guitar. It's cool. I'll upload me playing it sometime. When I get good enough. Really I just started teaching myself guitar and it's going pretty good.

Other news... valentines day is cool. Got what I wanted, gave what I wanted. ;)

And then a car...

The kind of car that I want is small, low, RWD, and manual. The other day my friend suggested to me the 300ZX. I checked it out. It's what I want. Cheap used and meets all the requirements that I have in a car. After my bike i'll be saving up for the car Here's a pic. The one I want, btw, is from the 90's.

Saving up for a bike

I am saving up for a new bike. If I get it before the season is over I can get it for 40% off. Great deal. I need the money fast, so I am applying for a lot of web dev jobs, etc. I hope I can make the money fast enough. :) Ideally I would make it by one month from now, but it can be a little bit later!

Wooo it's been a little while.

Wow, I have been off mah blog for a while now. Time for an update. Remember that game from before? Well it's getting along. I am going to be releasing a demo version soon. It will consist of only online play, but it'll be fun. It's already fun. As soon as a couple more engine bugs get fixed, I'll show you guys some updates. Well, I can't say you guys yet. Especially since my blog has no followers and I doubt it has much any views.

Peace out. lol.

Happy New Years

Happy new years to those who might stumble upon my blog.

This new years I vaguely saw the fireworks in the city from miles away. Good stuff. :) Before that, my girlfriend and I had some fun. You know what I mean! And after the fireworks we attempted to gather a bunch of friends to chill in the park with a fire and speakers and such. It failed because half the people were too smashed to make it and the fire wouldn't start. And would you know my girlfriend drank a whole bottle of sake and I had to drive her to her friends house in her own car and have her friend drive me home. Yay for having my permit for 8 months and being too lazy to take the driving test!

My new years resolution? I enjoy learning new things on my own time. For the most part, things that relate to computers. I know several programming languages and recently have taken up another. Because of how useful I have found learning, and the amount of projects that I have that are close to or half-way completed, I have decided that from now on I will not leave a project unfinished. I believe that will help me so much this year, as I take on tasks that I could never have imagined possible of myself!

Again, for those of you that stumble across my blog, tell me your new years resolution!

~Ryan
